Freeze damage doesn't always show up right away. Sometimes you wait, hoping the shrubs bounce back - and then weeks pass and it becomes clear they're not coming back. That's exactly the situation we were called in to handle here. A large commercial property was left with rows of dead and dying shrubs after a hard freeze hit, and the only real fix was a full demo and clean slate.
This kind of work takes the right equipment and the right approach. We ran a Kubota mini excavator alongside a Kubota SVL75 track loader to pull and remove the dead material efficiently without tearing up the surrounding hardscape and parking lot infrastructure. Working at night kept disruption to a minimum for the property and any businesses operating on site - which is something a lot of property managers appreciate more than they expect.
What most people don't think about is what comes after a landscape demo. Clearing out the dead root systems and material correctly is what sets up the next planting for success. Skip that step or do it halfway, and you're fighting drainage issues and poor soil conditions down the road. We take site prep seriously because it directly affects how well the next phase of work holds up.
Commercial properties can't afford to sit on freeze damage. Dead shrubs are an eyesore, they can become a liability, and they signal to customers that the property isn't being maintained. Getting it cleaned out quickly and done right is the move - and that's what we're set up to do.
